Lucy Grace Adams of Sperryville, Virginia was a smiley, sweet, beautiful baby girl whose life was suddenly and tragically cut short when she was a mere nine weeks old. Lucy became one of 2,500 infants who die from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) in the United States each year. SIDS is the leading cause of death among infants under one year of age. Despite years of research, this devastating condition remains unpredictable, striking seemingly healthy infants without warning.
Lucy Grace’s story has impacted members of the Sperryville community who wanted to do something to not only commemorate this young soul’s spirit, but to help researchers in their quest to find the cause and ultimately the elimination of SIDS. As a result, they have organized the first annual Lucy Grace 5K Race, which will take place on October 25 at 9:00 a.m. in Sperryville. “With this race we hope to raise more awareness for SIDS and eventually find a cure for such a heartbreaking affliction,” said Lucy Grace’s mother Tessa Adams. “We want Lucy Grace to be remembered and what better way to do that than with this race that will raise money for the children of our own community and the SIDS Foundation.” |
